Lions-Year 6

Welcome to Lions

Year 6

The Pride of Hollywell!

Our teacher is Mrs Harlin and our fabulous teaching assistants are

Mrs Turner-Paxton, Mrs Bradley and Mr Stirland.

Come and have a look at what we've been doing!

Bye Bye Hollywell - thank you to all our parents for organising super surprise events

for us to enjoy and baking such a yummy 'leavers cake'!

To link with our Geography project 'Road Trip', we designed and made moving vehicles in Design Technology.

We had to dig deep with our knowledge of angles to make some tricky joins, we worked out motors and pulley systems, and the focus and attention to detail is just superb.

We were all very proud of the finished products as they 'whizzed' around the table tops!

Well it's May, SATs are over and it's off to camp!

Let our photos tell the story of our fantastic adventures at Walesby Forest...

But we still managed to do ALL of this...

In Literacy this Spring, we have loved studying Macbeth by William Shakespeare.

In our Dance lessons we have worked together to tell the story through movement and music.

Below is a film of our presentation to friends and family.  Enjoy the show!

Maths Cafe

On 19th January, the Lions and Tigers came together for their Maths Cafe.

Many parents came along to help us make, calculate and investigate and much fun was had by all!

Once again, Hollywell did themselves proud and raised loads of money for this worthy cause:

a mighty £360!!

We made cakes, ate cakes, painted Pudsey on our faces and posed as heroes for the day!

This is the Lions....

Viking Day!

The Vikings came to Hollywell on Monday 10th November; don't worry, they were friendly ones!

We found out about aspects of their everyday lives using artefacts, planned our own Viking settlement

and went to battle with the Anglo-Saxons!

Picture 1 We used spindles to tease the wool.

Picture 3 Then we used shuttles...
Picture 4 ...to weave the wool on a loom.
Picture 5 We used a mould and hammer ...
Picture 6 ...to create 'hack silver' bangles.
Picture 7 We ground spelt grain...
Picture 8 ...to make flour.
Picture 9 We used beads of silver, amber, glass and wood...
Picture 10 ...to make beautiful bracelets.
Picture 11 Coil pots were made from clay.

Science Session

On Tuesday 4th November, we were thrilled to have Miss Iwanczuk - a science teacher from The Kimberley School - come and work with us in our science lesson.  We were studying 'variables' and how they can have an impact on an outcome.

We learned a lot and had great fun too!  Many thanks Miss Iwanczuk.

On Thursday 25th September, Lions went to SAFETY ZONE at Holme Pier Pont.

We had a great time working with and learning from the emergency services on how to be safe in everyday situations.
